Within the boundaries of ancient Sherwood Forest, Nottinghamshire, Church & Manor have develop a wooded site where special breeds of hen are at home, living merrily in small, free-range colonies.
'Maran Cuckoo' is one example of a rare breed. This ancient bird has recently undergone resurgence, having faced extinction in the 1930s. She has a distinctive dark plumage with a reddy brown chest and produces a delicious looking chocolate brown egg that many believe provides a stronger taste and a drier consistency.
